Occasionally I have patients concerned that they should not be using cranio-sacral therapy in tandem with other kinds of self care (traditional medicine, acupuncture, psychotherapy, re-birthing, osteopathy etcetera). What I would like to say is that cranio-sacral therapy is extremely supportive of other therapies and is in no way contraindicated as used along side these other traditions which have their own place and value in our care.
Of course there is the concern for some about costs, and I understand that completely - I guess it's about finding the best combination that one needs for oneself to be able to get to a better place of well-being with the resources you have available. As a therapist I am open to discussing reduced prices for situations such as this.
As an example I have found personally that psychotherapy done alongside cranio-sacral is particularly profound as it allows both the individual to express verbally with someone their situation and also to process that experience through the body to allow for deeper levels of release.
Another example is someone undergoing surgery, thank goodness modern medicine is able to help us overcome some of the illnesses we previously would not have been able to survive, cranio-sacral's role is again one that is greatly supportive and allows the body to heal faster and cope with the necessary but essentially invasive procedure that it has undergone and the patient to integrate the experience not only the physical (shock and tissue damage) but also emotional (stress, fear, anger etc) aspects of undergoing surgery.
So don't hesitate to combine, it does wonders! And feel free to contact me if you have any questions about whether cranio-sacral can be useful for you!
All the best and stay well,
April Dixon
